Real Escapes: Unwinding at Matiatia House, Waiheke Island

Position: Our journey to Matiatia House began with a scenic plane ride from Hawkes Bay, landing in Auckland. From there, we embarked on a brief Uber ride to the city, where we caught a ferry to Waiheke Island. Arriving on the island, we swiftly secured a rental car and drove just a short distance to the serene haven of Matiatia House.

People: Nestled overlooking the ferry terminal, Matiatia House, a part of the Allpress Olive Grove Group, proved to be a sanctuary of luxury and relaxation. Our stay was elevated by the well-appointed rooms, perfect for hosting friends who joined us for a night of camaraderie. With four spacious bedrooms, each boasting en-suites, the house was an ideal retreat for communal gatherings. Just a stone's throw away lies the Tasting Room, where we delved deeper into the story of Allpress Olive Groves, their dedicated team, and their vision for Waiheke Island and beyond.

Place: Matiatia House isn't just a place; it's an invitation to share moments with friends and family. Situated close to Onera and the renowned Mudbrick Winery, with its panoramic views of the city, the house offers a perfect blend of tranquility and proximity to Waiheke's renowned attractions.

Pluses: Despite our penchant for dining out, Matiatia House impressed us with its well-equipped kitchen and ideal entertaining spaces. The consistency and attention to detail throughout the house were remarkable, providing everything we needed and nothing we didn't. Whether enjoying a quiet evening in or exploring the island's culinary delights, Matiatia House offered the perfect backdrop for our Waiheke Island escape.
